Somewhere beneath our human being complexities rests the truth to our realities. The question then becomes which side is reality on; the hidden fantasy depths beneath our layers or the surface realities we live?
It’s been said a picture can speak a thousand words, but it can also unleash muted emotions through the eyes as a passage to a reflection that submerges to the depths of the heart and grasps weighted emotions to aid them from the chains of its existence. Practicing surreal photography art is a type of an escape for emerging, self-taught photography artist and young 26 year old Lebanese Lara Zankoul. Her first solo exhibition called ‘Depths’ in the form of photography and cinemagraph was presented in Ayyam Gallery Beirut earlier this year. Currently, the photography artist has been invited as an exhibitor to present her work in the current Photomed Festival in France taking place May 23-June 16, 2013. Photomeds 3rd Edition is aimed to ‘improve the visibility of Mediterranean photographers’ as well to promote a better understanding of the Mediterranean world. The young talented photography Artist Lara Zankoul may be at the commencement of her artistic career, but her work has already driven us to our aged depths and question two sides of ourselves.
Although the interpretation of the artist may serve as a guide between the tangible and the unleashed of her work, there is something bare in omitting it and ask; what do you see?
