Fashion rules are meant to be broken, and lately that includes wearing denim on denim.
HauteArabia.com shared some tips and tricks to how to rock the latest Double Denim trend!
Look # 1: Overalls
Pair your long overalls (choose baggy overalls/dungarees for a modest look) with a plaid shirt/ denim shirt/ stripes tee for the chic and stylish look this summer. Pair them with stunning heels and a statement clutch for an evening look.
Look # 2: Denim shirt with boyfriend jeans
This is one of the easiest looks to try when opting for a double denim look. Pair your denim shirt (tuck it in and wear a statement Moschino belt for example) with loose, boyfriend jeans. You can also get this look by pairing the denim shirt with hipster jeans which are in trend this summer. This is a perfect modest and trendy look. Wear a hijab in a printed pattern to add the right pop of color to this ensemble.
Look # 3: Denim jacket + Denim Jeans
A denim jacket is a wardrobe staple. Pair the denim jacket with a floral top and boyfriend jeans. The jeans should usually be in a darker shade than the jacket to break the monotony in the ensemble created by double denims. The jeans need not necessarily be in blue color. You can also get this look with white or black denims. A jean jacket is a cool replacement for your cardigan. Let a flowy blouse peek out beneath.
Look # 4: Denim maxi skirt with a chambray shirt
Pair a button downed long denim skirt with a denim jumper or chambray shirt. Team this look with gladiators in a bright hue for an elegant and poise look.
Look #5: Denim culottes+ Denim jacket
Pair a crisp white shirt/ t-shirt with denim culottes. Layer it with a denim jacket for a preppy casual look. Wear it with espadrilles or oxfords. For a modest look, ensure the length of the culottes is till the ankle. This looks teams up two summer trends- culottes and double denim !
SO HOW TO WEAR IT:
Tip #1: Pair two different shades of indigo to get a subtly monochromatic – not matchy-matchy effect.
Tip # 2: Break up the outfit with a touch of bright colour (bright ballerinas, pumps or a bright statement clutch). Add chunky jewellery for a more edgy look.
Tip # 3: The more rugged and low key the bottom and top is, the brighter and glamorous the shoes should be. Avoid sneakers. You can instead wear oxfords or brogues for a sporty look.
Tip # 4: Play with colours if you’re a total beginner- Before delving into shades of double blue, start out by pairing different shades of denim together, like white jeans and a blue denim jacket, or black jeans and a chambray shirt. It’s almost impossible to go wrong this way.
Tip #5 Don’t wear denim accessories. Keep the jeans confined to your clothing and just say no to denim shoes, a denim hat, a denim, handbag, or any other accessory.
So what is the secret to pulling off the look?
The secret is balance. A lightweight pale shirt looks great with a dark denim skirt. When wearing denim on denim, lighter shades of denim draw attention to the body areas they cover, while darker washes create a slimming effect. So usually the jeans should be of a darker colour than the top.
When in doubt, just look at this now-iconic image of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake from back in the day to remind yourself just how utterly wrong denim on denim can go.
That being said, it is probably impossible for you to ever go this wrong !
