Algiers First Fashion Week!
A few days ago, Algiers held its first Fashion Week. Merely 30 fashion designers from 10 countries (Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, UAE) came showcasing their latest collections in a prestigious place with a breathtaking seaside view, Algiers’ Culture Palace.
The event was organized by a society called ANM, Ambassadrice Nouvelle Méditerranée, held by Lynda Younga-Berber; the French marketing & communication specialist Pierre Prigent-Humblot; and the French-Algerian fashion designer Samir Pain. The ambassador of the event was non-other than Farida Khelfa, muse of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa.
For 4 days, the catwalk saw hundreds of tailored dresses, minimalist pants, sheer blouses and different styles, from the most streetstyle looks to the evening gowns.
Among them were the bold Tunisians Narciso Domingo Machiavelli with its conceptual and precise cuts; the romantic duet from Mademoiselle Hecy, whose romantic outfits left the audience sighing with dream and envy; and Cheyma, a young designer with minimalist whimsical looks. Note that Cheyma’s collection will soon be available on Haute Arabia.
Then came the French, with worldwide famous designers such as the French Nabil Hayari and Samir Pain introduced evening dresses suitable for any red carpet. We also loved the audacious Algerian Amor Guellil and his modern interpretation of traditional details, which was also done by the Moroccan Karim Tassi.
It was also an opportunity for young talents to participate to AFW contest and receive a financial prize and marketing counselling for one year, with the promise to be on the catwalk for the next event.
Besides the fashion shows, AFW also held conferences and exhibitions.
See you in October for the next Fashion Week in Algiers!
