Nike Middle-East latest ad campaign features a hijabi on the beach with her non-veiled friend, promoting pairs of runnings.
It is not the first time the American company shows veiled muslim women in their commercials. Back in 2012, for the Olympic Games, Nike also featured veiled women in a television commercial.
It is refreshing and nice to see not only muslim women represented, but also women wearing hijab, in Western advertising campaign.
Nike is quite avant-garde in this matter as it provides many athletes with Nike hijabs as part of their sponsorship contracts. The Bahreini Olympic team for example benefits from these products.
Lately, we have been seeing a new trend of modesty in fashion shoots, never being the hijab in itself, but styles looking like veils. Remember Dolce & Gabbana’s Italian mamas in Vogue Mexico?
How about you? Do you know of any other Western company showing hijabis in their marketing?
