Design and Conquer – The African Fashion and Philanthropy Event

Design and conquer

As London Fashion Week drew to a close on 22nd Sept 2015, another notable event was taking place in the Roche Bobois U.S flagship showroom on Madison Avenue: The African Fashion and Philanthropy Event.

The evening was hosted by Roche Bobois and the African Fashion Fund. This union is not as unlikely as it may sound as the French designer furniture company has collaborated with designers from around the world before. Displaying an astute global consciousness that defines a unique brand with staying power there was true diversity in design.

Africa is making waves as it enters the commercial and luxury fashion market, seeking to be included and relevant. With their use of traditional patterns and colourful textiles not to mention the unique skills and designs that are becoming more apparent; from footwear and fashion to interior design, this emerging market is imprinting its presence everywhere.

One of the designer showcases that evening was a line from luxury handcrafted footwear designer MO SAÏQUE, highlighting the well deserved excitement of this new dawn in fashion: a continent full of beauty making itself known to the world.

African Fashion Fund (AFF) is a not-for-profit organization that supports and develops emerging African fashion designers. AFF aims to further African fashion designers’ success in the global fashion industry and luxury market by providing capacity building through internship placements, manufacturing and production assistance, and grants and scholarships.
